Neue magazine took first place in the Best New Magazine (Design) category at the Pearl Awards, which celebrate the best in custom media design, editorial and strategy. Neue, a magazine for designers and architects that is produced by Dino Publishing on behalf of Fisher & Paykel Appliances, received the honor from among more than 500 entries in the seventh-annual custom media competition presented by The Custom Content Council.
“We pride ourselves on creating magazines that are brand-right for our clients while meeting their strategic objectives,” said Doug Leik, president and publisher of Dino Publishing, a Chicago-based custom content company. “Fisher & Paykel wanted a magazine that would capture the aesthetic of their appliances, and appeal to the designers and architects who recommend those appliances to their clients. This award affirms that we hit the mark.”
Neue magazine’s audience consists of industry leaders – those architects, designers and builders with discerning, modern tastes and whom Fisher & Paykel counts as its top clients. The magazine has a secondary audience consisting of those professionals’ clients. Neue has clean, simple and modern design, which reflects that of Fisher & Paykel’s appliances. The no-frills font keeps the magazine light and fresh, and the flexibility of column depth speaks to the forward-thinking culture of the brand. Yet, each feature article has its own unique feel, showcasing the versatility of the appliances and the possibilities for their integration into a wide variety of kitchens.

The Pearl Awards, held at the Water Club in New York City, celebrate the best in custom media design, editorial and strategic initiatives for B2B and consumer publications. This year’s 569 entries represent 71 companies, and the winning publications reflect a wide range of industries including cable companies, medical institutions, retailers, health care providers, fitness organizations, hotel chains, car manufacturers and financial institutions. The editorial and design award categories focus on the best new, ongoing and improved publications.
